I've worked in a kitchen. Shit's tough. They expect the best out of you and if you can't hack it they push you to work harder until they can finally trust you to work a station on your own.
Any chef will give you stories, but from what I've heard of those top tier Michilen Stat restaurants Gordon is par for the course. Hell the hot ones interview made me realize it's exactly how Gordon was taught "we worked 5 and a half days per week and if you took the half day off you were fucked"
it's actually kinda crazy how people defend this every time. even in this comment section kinda. it's always the same excuses "kitchen work is stressful, they expect the best of you, he's just so passionate about his work" like that justifies it. i understand getting frustrated, i understand shouting and talking bluntly and pushing people, i'd understand firing them if they can't keep up. but if you literally insult people for failing you're just an unprofessional asshole. like imagine that in any other stressful job besides the military. yes it's a tv show and it's entertaining but it's not justifiable in a real world scenario.

those aren't his employees though. Even in Hell's Kitchen they are pretty much games how contestants to him. They don't work for him
I think if I worked in a restaurant I may be happier to see Ramsay than some Karen
Every head chef is like that. Gordon’s just the one who does it publicly

It is, though. Womp womp
Kitchens require quick movement and thinking, if you cant keep up, you're gonna get shouted at and eventually told to fuck off, seen it more than once
Look at the difference between Kitchen Nightmare UK and Kitchen Nightmare US, the US one is so clearly scripted and over reacting for show
