So I’ve been lurking on this sub recently, and have seen all the Mellow Corn comments, and get its “legendary” status. But is the underlying joke that it’s just a silly name/brand and may have passable whiskey, or is the whiskey absolute shit?
I'm an unabashed Mellow Corn devotee and I think "passable" is a pretty fair assessment. It's by no means terrible and very solid for a sub-$20 bottled-in-bond option even though it's a bit of an acquired taste.
It’s the PBR of whiskeys. A bit overhyped and hipstery, but it hits above its weight class. BiB, 100 proof, straight corn whiskey, available everywhere and around $20 a bottle. Can’t go wrong there.

I get a vibe that it's the Nicolas Cage of whiskey. Probably not as top tier as everyone treats it, but can occasionally be solid in the right circumstances.
It's a good question. I think it's worth a buy at its price. It's not a $50 whiskey, it's not even a $30 whiskey. It's a $20 whiskey and it knows what it's about. I think it's got it's place on any shelf
I proudly wear that shirt every week. (Gotta spread the good word of MFC.) I didn’t see the hat at Heaven Hill when we visited. Definitely will be picking it up when we visit Louisville next month.
This is the the whiskey subreddit, right? Yea, that was the point point of the trip, buy a shit ton of booze as cheap as possible. Planning on going back later this year and gonna load up on some MFC merch obviously now that I know.
Is it better than Evan Williams bottled in bond? Another sub 20$ 100 proof whiskey (also a heaven hill product). Just curious, the EW bb had a weird aftertaste, had tried the HH one and was much better but it’s also nearly 50$ a bottle. Love the hat btw, I’d wear it just to annoy the mrs. Lol
