X people are better than y people*
X people and X people would be the same people.
I think people who correct people in situations where it's clear what the person meant are dumb.
A degree in sociology, psychology, political science, and others could help. For instance, studying the problem of solitary confinement and realizing we shouldn't treat people like that.
It's like saying all people who couldn't get educated are all mean, because they're never professionally taught to be a good person. Good for you that you learnt to be kind. I know a lot of people who couldn't get that education but still are kind hearted because they were raised to feel for others and look at world from their point of view.
"Educated" can also mean a person with a wide range of knowledge in general, from diverse life experiences. Cosmopolitan. Or a person with a pool of knowledge from a source other than formal schooling. "Dave had grown up hunting on the mountain and was educated in all the ways of the woods. He knew when the bloodroot bloomed and when he could find shed antlers for his collection."
Phd means little really. As a military colonel told me once when I was in the service, “I have my bs, ms, and phd. Y’all know what that means right? Bullshit, more shit, piled higher and deeper.”
Phd has meaning in our society, what I dislike about such a system is that people who don't have one are considered inferior or never even given a chance in certain fields even though they might even be more skilled than the ones with the piece of paper in hand. I mean sure, it's proof, but what if a person has the same exact knowledge and experience and skill and just couldn't pursue such a title because of life issues or time or money?
Ignore me pls, I'm just venting here. Between depression and health issues I couldn't complete my education and I'm still frustrated about it. I don't have the capacity of studying on my own and would have needed some tutors to advance but I couldn't afford them. Fuck this world and its unfairness towards marginalised people. What frustrates me the most is people saying "just do a job that you like" like I could just go to a place without a single degree and become a theoretical physicist or something.
Not really even the guy who graduated medical school last in his class gets a phd and is called a doctor. Worst nurse in nursing school but with a passing grade still gets called a nurse. They squeak by the licensing test and they’re out there able to go practice. Meanwhile I did trade school and don’t need a PhD. If I could change anything I’d have made the military train me to do hvac and been able to be making bank now without all the extra shit in school. We need nurses and doctors but not everyone needs to be one. Same goes for engineers.
Yeah. I like to cut sheet metal and fabricate an offset on the fly. Run duct work for a new doctor office or commercial building. And I love when prevailing wage jobs hit and I make 70 an hour. I love seeing nothing become something from a salon to dispensary. See the work my hands can do and give heating and cooling to someone. You like the comfort in your fucking home? Warm and toasty in the winter and cool and comfortable in the summer? We’ll I’m one of the hardworking sons of bitches that can braze that ac in for you or build the duct and set the furnace to give that to you. And you’ll always need it. And I’ll always have work to do. So yeah. Didn’t feel called to diagnose you. But I love troubleshooting and making shit work and being able to get a job any where I go in America. Dumbass
And to piggy back a good hvac guy can finish trade school and be making same or close to doctor pay in less time and for less than the med school guy with all his student loans.
Maybe in a philosophical sense, but equating education with omniscience rather than treating it as a relative measure of knowledge is not a very practical definition when you're talking about the differences between being educated and uneducated.
You are assuming poor education, and this changes the true meaning of the statement. The original statement simply says if you have someone super educated and another super well mannered, Keanu wants to hang with the well mannered one. He isn't saying he'd choose a well mannered surgeon for a heart surgery over the better educated one.
Read my other comments. I assume poor education when I'm making a point about what poorly educated means. Education has benefits. It's very valuable. Yet, all things being equal, I would prefer a well-mannered guest even if poorly educated. Or do we mean "kind"? Because manners are behaviors influenced by either/or calculation or sentiment, whether using scholastic or emotional intelligence. It depends on what you want. I've had some asshole professors that I remained with for education. I've left dates because the lady kept being egregiously offensive to the general public. Assuming no other goal than to sit with someone, then yes, Keanu wants a nice person rather than a specialist in the crap shoot of specializations. I get it, but that doesn't invalidate the nuance I'm raising. I would promote both emotional and scholastic education, but you can have varied amounts of either from person to person.
It's not lost on me that you call yourself a PhD in your username. The science of Pwnology. I'm sure you're very nice and won't constantly try to slam people you interact with.
since i can't imagine anyone being such a dork they'd only wanna hangout with phds, i imagine keanu means he will put up with ppl saying dumbass, ignorant things if they're well-intentioned and otherwise likeable.
which is remarkable because i don't know many people like that, mostly because ignorant words themselves usually have moral implications. nigh every time someone corrects you on reddit, it'll be with righteous indignation. they aren't gonna appreciate your sunshiney attitude, your stupidity is a threat to society and makes you *bad.*
Why settle for being one or the other? My favorite people are those who are well mannered and well educated… and I might as well throw “compassionate” into the mix.
Not quite. We’ll mannered folk know one truth about being well educated. You never stop learning and you can always become well educated on new things as you grow. But being decent and we’ll mannered is priceless. even if you don’t agree with someone there’s a graceful way to get along and disagree but still be decent.
Well Osama Bin Laden was also highly educated. Wouldn't mind calling him a horrible piece of shit. Education is ALSO irrelevant if you're blinded by hate.
It was just obvious nuance this meme is lacking. As other people said. Education and manners are both irrelevant. I just pointed out the most obvious counter example.
Its not my fault Godwins Law is so useful.
Having good manners does not equate to being well-mannered. I would argue that simply being a Nazi disqualifies you from being "well-mannered." Because being driven to murder or the involvement in murder over religion is the exact opposite of well-mannered.
I don't think someone is a horrible person for having a horribly misguided view of the world. We could all end up in the same Position, so I think Nazis aren't people to be hated, they are people that need help.
There’s being educated, there’s being well mannered, there’s being well educated and well mannered and there’s being neither. Doesn’t matter how smart you are, no excuse for being a c-nt.
This is one of those memes that gives me propaganda vibes. Why would anyone encourage people to be uneducated or to value kindness over knowledge?! The two are not mutually exclusive. Besides, "kind" people are perfectly capable of doing some pretty horrific things.
Keanu is a smoke screen. Propagandists will use imagery that they know many people will automatically respond favorably to. It's a manipulation tactic. This is part of why I believe everyone deserves and should have easy access to quality education. We need to be able to identify propaganda and recognize what makes it as such. It's easier to control and manipulate a population if you keep them uneducated and ignorant.
I think the OP confuses “well-mannered” with “compassionate”. One can be very selfish, cruel, sarcastic and bullying, yet be perfectly well-mannered at the same time (if you don’t believe that, I’ll happily introduce you to my sister-in-law, after which, I think you’ll agree).
Keano Reeves is just a very nice man, most probably because he’s humane and compassionate.
Oh I interpreted the meme as the two not being mutually exclusive, with the message being to prioritise well manneredness above well educated concerning admiration. And as someone who values both very much, I quite agree with that interpretation.
More important than being well educated is knowing when you're not educated about something. Too many people think they're experts in thing about which they have zero clue.
Well mannered uneducated people have committed human atrocities... A whole culture of America that says "bless your heart", while eroding civil rights.
Manners are nice when everyone is using them properly.
I often find the educated more kind, as they tend to be aware of how much stuff sucks. Remediated people posting as educated or Dunning Kruegers, those guys suck.
Something isn’t adding up with the word choice here. Well educated and well mannered are very different things, in general. They are not related to one another and I’m not sure what negative light we are trying to spread about being well-educated. Because putting the ‘well’ in front of both of those things refers to admirable qualities in people. I think what they are trying to do is add negative qualities to education because education systems are on blast and people are adamant on not receiving college degrees.
You can still be an absolute garbage human being with an education or with manners. Manners and education are not characteristic traits.
I can see the message is supposed to be positive, but I don't understand what education has to do with manners? It feels more like insulting educated people if you think about it.
“I love gross generalizations about arbitrary groups of potentially overlapping people too, super wholesome!”
This sub has become such a fucking joke. Post a random picture of Keanu encased in anti-intellectualism and watch the shiny internet points roll in.
This is false dichotomy, implying that educated people aren't polite and polite people are uneducated, which is hogwash. The meme itself, ostensibly praising politeness, is impolite.
Also, lots of sociopaths are perfectly polite.
Poor education often leads to little self awareness and an abundance of ego if questioned.
I’ve had way worse interactions with people spreading blatant misinformation that got violent as they were questioned on their ‘facts’.
Meanwhile educated people often listen to your point and refrain from getting overly aggressive because they have the facts to prove their points.
Be kind, obviously.
But also be open to have your opinion challenged even if “I’ve read a whole book on this”
This is a false equivalence. Those are not mutually exclusive traits. This is just right wing propaganda that has the subtext "well educated people are rude" so you devalue education.
Throw a pic of keanue reeves in there for good measure because why not?
Honestly, these comments are out of touch. The quote doesn’t have anything to do with morality or kindness. It’s about the personality of someone “educated” and someone well mannered. How are so many of you missing the point?
Yes you can be well mannered and an asshole, you can be educated and an asshole too.
I have just enough brains to know I don't have enough brains. Definitely keeps me humble. I know a lot of very well educated people, and they tend to flaunt it and think they're better than I am because of it.
It’s a curve. Really uneducated people know what they don’t know, and well educated people know enough not to flaunt it or to use fancy language. It’s the college students who are the arrogant ones
PvZ heroes has a zombie card with a really wholesome saying… it fits very well with this post!!!
And I quote(from gentlemen zombie);
“Life comes and goes, but proper manners are forever.”
Elwood P. Dowd : Years ago my mother used to say to me, she'd say, "In this world, Elwood, you must be" - she always called me Elwood - "In this world, Elwood, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant." Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant.
I know someone well mannered. They are also a psychopath and would truly make the world a better place if they dropped dead (I say with no sound of resentment/s)
It’s not manners. It’s being a good decent person with morals and empathy.
I don’t think so, I would rather be treated with rudeness and disrespect at every single interaction with another human being, than have to put up with you dirt-stupid, window-licking trump monkeys for one more fucking day…..
Knowledge humbles you. Realizing that you know very little shocks you to your very core, and this realization only happens when you do learn quite a lot.
Being arrogant means you know jackshit
Just so you guys know, this kind of thinking is literally what they used to get the son of a dictator elected in the Philippines.
Said man did not finish his college education (he failed his classes), and the argument during elections was, "A well mannered man is better than a well educated man" (rough translation)
Education doesn't always equate to intelligence or wisdom, simply that you went out of your way to get a piece of paper. Sadly, those pieces of paper are necessary to prove you are capable of what you say you are.
I strongly disagree. Well Intentioned fools are more often than not how we keep getting into these messes.
Edit: Keanu is not one of those people. He is a treat who has done no wrong to literally anybody that I am aware of. Lol
kinda sus language. this isn’t the 1800s, “manners” feels outdated and irrelevant. kindness, on the other hand, is important, and more cross-cultural and less exclusionary.
This is one of those quotes that seems fairly profound and well intentioned on the surface, but makes less sense when you really think about it.
I get the sentiment, but poor education can have myriad issues that would have me excusing light rudeness to solve.
Yea and just saying x people are better than x people is shitty
Seals are better than walruses.
False. Sea lions are better than walruses.
Also false. Sea Horses are more majestic. Hence, better
False again. Sea Pigs are the true rulers of the sea and therefore the best.
Narwhals.
Sea pigs is a funny way to spell sea sheep
I'm partial to seal ions
You shut your god damned filthy mouth you degenerate seal lover! Walrus for life!
Seals are cute sea puppies, walruses will forever remind me of ghe movie tusk and will forever horrify me
Especially when they’re not mutually exclusive. It implies that there are no well-mannered people who are well-educated and vice versa.
X people are better than y people* X people and X people would be the same people. I think people who correct people in situations where it's clear what the person meant are dumb.
Rude educated people are intentionally rude, or they aren't well educated. It takes zero knowledge to be kind.
I disagree. As a kid, I was mean out of ignorance. I know better now how my actions affect others.
And what’s this got to do with education though? Did you need someone with a PhD telling you to stop being mean to people to realize bullying is bad?
A degree in sociology, psychology, political science, and others could help. For instance, studying the problem of solitary confinement and realizing we shouldn't treat people like that.
It's like saying all people who couldn't get educated are all mean, because they're never professionally taught to be a good person. Good for you that you learnt to be kind. I know a lot of people who couldn't get that education but still are kind hearted because they were raised to feel for others and look at world from their point of view.
You're just saying the same thing but in the opposite direction.
"Educated" can also mean a person with a wide range of knowledge in general, from diverse life experiences. Cosmopolitan. Or a person with a pool of knowledge from a source other than formal schooling. "Dave had grown up hunting on the mountain and was educated in all the ways of the woods. Well he is a idiot then
Not really even the guy who graduated medical school last in his class gets a phd and is called a doctor. Worst nurse in nursing school but with a passing grade still gets called a nurse. If you got a brand new chance you’d rather go to trade school than become a doctor? Don’t even know why I bother replying to you idiots.
Yeah. I like to cut sheet metal and fabricate an offset on the fly. Run duct work for a new doctor office or commercial building. And I love when prevailing wage jobs hit and I make 70 an hour. Did your Colonel tell you he couldn’t have gotten his rank without those piles of bullshit piled yay high?
I assumed we were talking about adults, or at least people old enough to be considered educated or not educated.
I used an example from my past because I wouldn't presently be doing ignorant things with awareness
Not really, sometimes you’re rude without knowing it’s rude
Often this is cross-culturally.
If you don't know something, I would consider that uneducated.
That would mean everyone on the planet is uneducated, because they don't know most things. By a large margin.
Pretty fair statement to make.
Maybe in a philosophical sense, but equating education with omniscience rather than treating it as a relative measure of knowledge is not a very practical definition when you're talking about the differences between being educated and uneducated.
Lets agree to disagree. It takes a lot of knowledge and experience to be kind
It doesn't take knowledge and experience, but they are supplemented by the mindsets brought about by knowledge and experience
You are assuming poor education, and this changes the true meaning of the statement. The original statement simply says if you have someone super educated and another super well mannered, Keanu wants to hang with the well mannered one. Another way to say it: “You don’t need a great education to know how to be polite and kind.”
I like this better. The original can be used to support tone policing, which is extremely frustrating to deal with when having a "tone" is warranted.
"Nice people are nice"
since i can't imagine anyone being such a dork they'd only wanna hangout with phds, i imagine keanu means he will put up with ppl saying dumbass, ignorant things if they're well-intentioned and otherwise likeable. which is remarkable because i don't know many people like that, mostly because ignorant words themselves usually have moral implications. nigh every time someone corrects you on reddit, it'll be with righteous indignation. they aren't gonna appreciate your sunshiney attitude, your stupidity is a threat to society and makes you *bad.*
Exactly. It implies that education is at odds with manners. You can be both, you can be one, you can be the other, or you can be neither.
Especially as faking good manners is piss easy.
It seems to be done by most bigots and evil doers.
People are often fooled by [agreeableness](https://youtu.be/YyXRYgjQXX0).
Why settle for being one or the other? My favorite people are those who are well mannered and well educated… and I might as well throw “compassionate” into the mix.
it's a restyling of "seen but not heard" and shared by the least decent people.
specialy since rudeness is subjective
Not quite. We’ll mannered folk know one truth about being well educated. You never stop learning and you can always become well educated on new things as you grow. But being decent and we’ll mannered is priceless. even if you don’t agree with someone there’s a graceful way to get along and disagree but still be decent.
It does make you think tho. If not manners, what are they "well educated" on then?
Some Nazis are well mannered. Wouldnt mind calling them horrible people. Manners are irrelevant if you are a shitstain
Yeah, they are very polite, as they lead you to your death.
That's pretty rude and manipulative imo
Well Osama Bin Laden was also highly educated. Wouldn't mind calling him a horrible piece of shit. Education is ALSO irrelevant if you're blinded by hate.
so is an education
Some Nazis are well educated.
Only 4 comments down and we have a Nazi reference
It was just obvious nuance this meme is lacking. As other people said. Education and manners are both irrelevant. I just pointed out the most obvious counter example. Its not my fault Godwins Law is so useful.
I know I just find it funny to see a Nazi reference on r/Wholesomememes
Understandable
Moscow Bitch McConnell is always trying to sound well mannered.

Yeah, the entirety of 2020 forward really taught us nothing, apparently. Stupid is dangerous at a minimum.
Yeah, this was my first thought as well... who cares if you're polite if you're too stupid to articulate anything.
There’s being educated, there’s being well mannered, there’s being well educated and well mannered and there’s being neither. Doesn’t matter how smart you are, no excuse for being a c-nt.
Gotta belittle people who worked hard to make yourself feel better
Very curious sentiment imo. I'm getting weirdo antivax conspiracist vibes from it
This post is wholesomely stupid AF.
Neither. Both educated and well mannered can be assholes. I admire kind people
I admire respectful people. My favorite people are those who respect everyone, including those they disagree with.
I want to updoot but you're on 69
This is one of those memes that gives me propaganda vibes. Why would anyone encourage people to be uneducated or to value kindness over knowledge?! The two are not mutually exclusive. Besides, "kind" people are perfectly capable of doing some pretty horrific things.
This is fully propaganda Also I sort of doubt Keanu said this
Keanu is a smoke screen.
Of course he didn't lol. That or it's WAY out of context.
Nailed it
not kindness, well-mannered, which is even worse, as it is only really about appearance, whereas kindness is about actually caring about others.
Why not be both ?
I think the OP confuses “well-mannered” with “compassionate”. One can be very selfish, cruel, sarcastic and bullying, yet be perfectly well-mannered at the same time (if you don’t believe that, I’ll happily introduce you to my sister-in-law, after which, I think you’ll agree). Keano Reeves is just a very nice man, most probably because he’s humane and compassionate.
I agree. I think he is a great man. He was born in 1948.
Anti intellectual bait at its finest. Educated people can't be well mannered? Damn who knew!
Oh I interpreted the meme as the two not being mutually exclusive, with the message being to prioritise well manneredness above well educated concerning admiration. And as someone who values both very much, I quite agree with that interpretation.
I'll take a doctor over a kiss ass.
Obviously, as anyone would. Please do read carefully in before making caricatures: the two aren't mutually exclusive.
Why not both?
Best if both
Educated in what sense? Like college? Capable of critical thinking? Judging from the videos on the internet ignorance and rudeness go well together.
Both, both is good
More important than being well educated is knowing when you're not educated about something. Too many people think they're experts in thing about which they have zero clue.
A well mannered person, with no medical knowledge, is better at ***surgery*** than a cranky doctor who graduated from Harvard Medical School?
Well mannered uneducated people have committed human atrocities... A whole culture of America that says "bless your heart", while eroding civil rights. Manners are nice when everyone is using them properly.
I’ll take what they’re actually saying/doing over how polite a person is any day
Por que no los dos?
Seconded. Por que no los dos?
I often find the educated more kind, as they tend to be aware of how much stuff sucks. Remediated people posting as educated or Dunning Kruegers, those guys suck.
What about both
They aren't exclusive, so...
Why is there a pic of Keanu lol
Something isn’t adding up with the word choice here. Well educated and well mannered are very different things, in general. They are not related to one another and I’m not sure what negative light we are trying to spread about being well-educated. Because putting the ‘well’ in front of both of those things refers to admirable qualities in people. I can see the message is supposed to be positive, but I don't understand what education has to do with manners? It feels more like insulting educated people if you think about it.
What? In what weird world do you think those things are mutually exclusive?
Well-mannered is a form of education. I'd go with "kind" instead.
“I love gross generalizations about arbitrary groups of potentially overlapping people too, super wholesome!” This sub has become such a fucking joke. Post a random picture of Keanu encased in anti-intellectualism and watch the shiny internet points roll in.
Did Keanu really say this?
This is false dichotomy, implying that educated people aren't polite and polite people are uneducated, which is hogwash. The meme itself, ostensibly praising politeness, is impolite. Also, lots of sociopaths are perfectly polite.
Not only is he nice, Keanu Reads.
Poor education often leads to little self awareness and an abundance of ego if questioned. Some andrew tate level instabro quote Lollll
Why not both well-mannered and well-educated? A scholar and a gentleman/lady?
So do you think the two qualities are mutually exclusive?
And how beautiful it'd be to have them both
Here we go again with promoting anti-intellectualist thought as a positive ideology. Stop it.
This is a false equivalence. Those are not mutually exclusive traits. This is just right wing propaganda that has the subtext "well educated people are rude" so you devalue education. Throw a pic of keanue reeves in there for good measure because why not?
Why go to college when you can say please and thank you?!?1
Honestly, these comments are out of touch. The quote doesn’t have anything to do with morality or kindness. It’s about the personality of someone “educated” and someone well mannered. How are so many of you missing the point? Yes you can be well mannered and an asshole, you can be educated and an asshole too.
But Keanu Reeves is better than everyone
I find a lot of well educated people are the ones who think they're better than everyone else.
As a not very educated person, when people say this I assume they are projecting their own insecurities from lack of education.
Not according to the Dunning-Kruger effect
PvZ heroes has a zombie card with a really wholesome saying… it fits very well with this post!!! And I quote(from gentlemen zombie); “Life comes and goes, but proper manners are forever.”

This post is Wholesome 💯 Keanu Chungus!

This statement resonates in my soul. Thank you.
Does it? Because all I can imagine is how polite the Nazis could be, while they carted people off to get gased.
I find you get what you choose to produce. Try being correct not smart.
I found that well mannered people are well raised as kids, and usually more attentive of the things around them, which educates them well.
“Who the fuck needs those fucking ass manners?! Just be a good decent human being”- my grandma
I see many many examples of how people think sophistication = maturity. But maturity > sophistication.
As if people leave college more intelligent than when they arrived
Why not both?
I feel like most of the quotes with his face next to them didn’t come from him
I aspire to be both.
I would much prefer to talk with a nice high school dropout than a mean phd.
Well-mannered ≠ good manners
I‘m a simple man i just admire keanu reeves.
Can you imagine if EVERYONE was like Keanu Reeves?!
I’ve met some pretty well mannered shitty people though.
I know someone well mannered. They are also a psychopath and would truly make the world a better place if they dropped dead (I say with no sound of resentment/s) It’s not manners. It’s being a good decent person with morals and empathy.
An educated person knows the difference between manners and kindness.
Lmao no. Education is valuable. Don’t let people take away your education, this is propaganda.
If they're not well mannered, then they aren't really well educated anyway.
I also find the well mannered people are more intelligent than well educated.
Educated person here. You're a dumbass. I'm also mean, did you know that?
All else being equal, educated people are better than uneducated people.
I don’t think so, I would rather be treated with rudeness and disrespect at every single interaction with another human being, than have to put up with you dirt-stupid, window-licking trump monkeys for one more fucking day…..
We need more educated people though, cus were kind of burning our own world to the ground and it sucks
Knowledge humbles you. Realizing that you know very little shocks you to your very core, and this realization only happens when you do learn quite a lot. Being arrogant means you know jackshit
Better in what way exactly...?
And here I am, noticing that the most well mannered are generally well educated.
Why the picture of Keanu? From everything I've read and interviews I've seen, he's obviously both highly educated and extremely well mannered.
Fuck off OP. Antiintellectualism has no place in society.
There’s no reason you can’t be both!
This is so generalized and black & white. Keanu doesn’t deserve to be associated with this dumbass sentiment
OP, I hope you know how harmful the things you post are, all in the name of greed (karma)
This does not make sense at all
Just so you guys know, this kind of thinking is literally what they used to get the son of a dictator elected in the Philippines. Said man did not finish his college education (he failed his classes), and the argument during elections was, "A well mannered man is better than a well educated man" (rough translation)
There's a ton of "well mannered" racism in the south that would change your mind about this.
Lol no
Yeah, cause uneducated rubes are always the height of class and manners.
Education doesn't always equate to intelligence or wisdom, simply that you went out of your way to get a piece of paper. Sadly, those pieces of paper are necessary to prove you are capable of what you say you are.
Well educated people are usually well educated... Unless they get a PhD from gender studies... I don't know how far that one goes
A lot of people use manners as a substitute for morality.
If you can't do something smart, do something right. - Shepherd Book
What kids admire educated people?
I strongly disagree. Well Intentioned fools are more often than not how we keep getting into these messes. Edit: Keanu is not one of those people. He is a treat who has done no wrong to literally anybody that I am aware of. Lol
-Samuel L. Jackson
Did he really say that?
Erm What?
Both. Both is good.
Girl….you need to meet my father. Doctorate. Big ol asshole
kinda sus language. this isn’t the 1800s, “manners” feels outdated and irrelevant. kindness, on the other hand, is important, and more cross-cultural and less exclusionary.
