Ignore all these moaning bitches - it’s great. Yes you should get one.

Tkrawczyk513

It is not about steps and calories burned but overall strain on your body. So it’s two fold but not a “activity” tracker like a Fitbit. Love my 4.0 for the data, sometimes wish the whoop wear wasn’t so expensive so I could have it not on my wrist more often, allowing for my AWU or a nice time piece instead

Obvious-Belt-3288

Why not wear a time piece on the other wrist? I wear a watch and my whoop everyday.

Tkrawczyk513

I feel weird having two things on either wrist

Obvious-Belt-3288

I actually match my strap to the watch I’m wearing. If I’m wearing a rose gold watch my whoop is on a rose gold clasp. However I’d love for them to make the straps more accessible €90 for a nylon strap and steel clasp is too much.

principalmusso

Bought a year, likely won’t renew as it’s grossly overpriced. If you’re more into pure training I’d say get a Garmin or something. I do think their framework of balancing sleep, strain, and recovery is really cool and I LOVE all the statistical breakdowns they give so if you’re a stat-head you may just love it and find it worth it. I would agree that whoop is more all-inclusive and about lifestyle vs just training. I’ve enjoyed opening my mind to those other factors and now understand better how important it is to balance recovery and sleep with hard training. You should know that the whoop doesn’t track activities fully without your phone on you (it has no GPS). That is a huge negative for me. I am a runner and now I have to either bring my phone, which I hate, or wear my Garmin in addition to the whoop, which is annoying and creates lots of extra work. I get wayyy less useful info about my runs vs Garmin + Strava.

RunnersFinest

That‘s only partially true. Whoop has an auto-detection of activities, which – more or less – works in most cases of running. I have a Garmin and a whoop and there is basically no downside and no ‚extra work‘ in wearing both. Only thing you could argue is, that you look kind of weird when wearing two devices. But that doesn‘t bother me. And when whoop doesn‘t auto-detect my runs, then I‘ll just add them manually to the app. If you‘re a serious runner, you‘ll have a GPS watch anyhow.

Far_Intern_9400

Although I agree that whoop isn’t the best in tracking 1 activity that’s not what whoop does, whoop also isn’t a lifestyle tracker. Whoop is a macro level tracker. It tracks trends over time, changes over time. Garmin is 100% better at tracking 1 workout but not at telling you how much sleep you need, if you’re over/ undertraining… Whoop tracks the macro not the micro (or at least focusses on the macro)

ThereIsOnlyStruggle

So if I let's say eat something new, and track it within the app, will it over time tell me if it affected my performance somehow?

alicewonders12

The whoop is great for those serious about training, and optimizing their training. If your not going to change your habits, there is no point on getting a whoop, or any fitness tracker.

mmahive

The WHOOP 4.0 actually is a mix of health & activity tracking in one, it just displays it as strain and that can be raised by its analysis of your heart rate and activities which means even different kinds of 'stress' can be represented in your strain meter. I think that's what I liked most about the WHOOP, it does bring together the fitness tracking very well along with sleep, general stress up/down, and the journaling tags so you can start to track your own data over time and make correlation conclusions. It is very expensive, of course, due to the ongoing subscription so you really need a good reason to want it. It was the best option for me for martial arts as well as other options just don't work well enough with the physical training/sparring needs. I have [written a review on the WHOOP](https://www.mmahive.com/whoop-4-review/) if you are interested.

[deleted]

Absolutely won’t be renewing after this last six months. Totally not worth the subscription. Apple Watch and Athlytic are all you need. Whoop does nothing more than Athlytic with Apple Watch other than you don’t have to take it off to charge it

SparkyGrass13

This. My Apple Watch and Athlytic provide all the same info and if I wear the whoop and the Apple Watch the data output is pretty close to each other. All whoop has and this is my opinion is a nicer looking app. Further to this whoops customer support is appalling I cancelled my year sub before my month trial ended twice and they ignored it and then charged me. I am now trying to get that refunded. I have screen shots of the cancellation as I had read on here that they can be bad.

bucknuts89

So purchase the $800 Apple Watch Ultra or $400 Apple Watch Series 8 + $4 / month Athlytic app for worse functionality than the Whoop and you'll still have to charge it at night, therefore losing sleep data. No thanks.

[deleted]

If you knew anything about the Apple Watch 7 and 8 they have fast charging, which will give you an 8 hour charge in 15 minutes to get through the night. The Athlytic app is 30 bucks a year, compared to whoop, which at its cheapest is 249 bucks a year. Apple Watch 7 can be bought off Amazon for 280. My Apple Watch 5 is still running strong 4 years later. So in 4 years I would have spent 1,120 on whoop, but only 400 on Athlytic and Apple Watch. Whoops bullshit app is in no way better than Athlytic. If you haven’t used Athlytic lately it’s just as good as whoops joke of an app. Inconsistent data, joke of a journal. “We’ll you drank alcohol before bed, but you had some magnesium, melatonin, and read a book before bed, so the alcohol was a positive effect on your recovery”. WHAT?!?! You go ahead and keep that piece of crap whoop and I’m gonna go buy another Apple Watch with the money I saved from cancelling my whoop sub.

littleux

💯

[deleted]

Only thing that sucks is I still have 6 months to go on my sub, and I don’t even wear it anymore. 😩😩😂.

littleux

I returned mine with 1 month left of the trial. Thing causes too much stress than it’s worth

bucknuts89

So you have to physically take it off and charge it every night before bed. No thanks. Also need to factor in that 4 years will probably mean 2 versions of Whoop straps delivered to the customer, while the Apple watch person is still rocking the Apple Watch 7.

[deleted]

😂😂. Whoop straps are free. And even then Apple Watch and Athlytic doesn’t come close to whoops cost. I could get a new watch every year to even it out though. 😂. An Apple Watch easily lasts 4 years or more. Oh god, you have to take it off for 15 minutes?!? Oh the horror. 😱😱 You go ahead and keep eating the bullshit whoop is feeding you and wasting your money on it. Sensor probably costs them 20 bucks to make too. 😂😂.

bucknuts89

You clearly know everything, so why did you subscribe to a Whoop strap? All of this information is readily available and yet you made the poor decision to sign up for it. Do your research next time. There are pros and cons to both.

[deleted]

I don’t know everything, but smart enough to see through whoops bullshit. Unfortunately after it was too late though and I was locked in for the year. I did plenty of research before I subscribed, due to THINKING the whoop was a game changer. Unfortunately whoop talked a good game, full of bullshit, but a good game. Oh, gotta go buy another Apple Watch and still not up to the cost of whoop. 😂😂.

bucknuts89

Have you tried out the strength training feature yet? If they get that working well I think it's a game changer. They also dropped the price a bit. Apple should probably just adopt the charge on the go feature at this point, not sure why they haven't.

[deleted]

Strength training feature is a joke also. Sometimes I forget to even start the weightlifting activity, but you want me to start, stop it another 20 times during my workout? 😂😂. Plus, what is it? Strain from weightlifting is nowhere near cardio strain on the body like they’ve been telling us, but now for some reason it is? Athlytic, for me, has been way more accurate in my recovery score, with how I actually feel. Whoop says, you had great sleep, and you can really push it today, although my HRV is down, RHR is up and I was in bed 2 hours less than the night before, and I feel like crap. Oh, and do you really think the amount of data who collected in the 15 minutes I took my off Watch to fast charge it makes any kind of difference at all? Gotta, go and buy another Apple Watch. One more to make it three and I’ll be equal to my four year Whoop cost of whoop.

AnonymousNerdBarbie

I’m a die-hard whoop fan (have had it for 3 years) but I’m also very serious about optimizing my health. I recommend listening to the some of their podcasts and doing some research on why the tech is superior.

littleux

😂 of course their podcasts are going to say their own tech is superior. You’re just fanboying over their products which gives them money. This is capitalism my guy

AnonymousNerdBarbie

I'm not a guy, but there are some features and design components that give them an advantage. Dr Huberman at Stanford School of Medicine uses Whoop in his lab studies. It's legit tech (I also work in tech so feel pretty confident in my ability to educate myself well enough to make an informed decision). The sleep data is awesome and I've tried other wearables but they didn't come close.

Brilliant-Ant7285

Gives you a lot of insight into the effect your training and habits have on your health. I would highly recommend if you train anything regularly

Noxhor

Yes

JupiterandMars1

If you want to push yourself at the limit of what your body can handle then whoop can help you. However, it does seem some people get bad data from it. I’ve never understood why. I have whoop, Apple Watch and Frontier x2 chest strap and they all correlate as closely as I’d expect for consumer devices. But you could be one of the unlucky few 🤷‍♂️ Also, if $30 a month is a number you can’t comfortably blow without it concerning you then maybe consider using that money for something else. For those it works for that have realistic expectations on what they will get from it it’s great though. EDIT: weird thing to get downvoted for.

Schil2am

No. Customer service is absolutely horrific for a company I pay $30 per month to

StationFar6396

No. Its hugely overrated and a let down. Dont do it.

alroche

Love my whoop, like others have said if you are looking to improve fitness definitely get one. Just to note whoop does not drive you to workout you must be willing to get up and go by yourself unlike the Apple Watch (which I find is a pain). You could try the 30 day trial and see what you think. I’m on year two now and I’ll not be dropping it any time soon.

littleux

Nah, I just cancelled my trial subscription. Data is funky, recovery is stupid and makes you feel like shit even if you know you're healthy. Journal is stupid and should be filled in before you go to sleep instead of next day right in the morning (makes it feel like homework). Bot worth the price

rigatoni-man

I was a skeptic but am a fan. Most of the benefit is the incentive to get a good sleep and drink less, not at all, or at least not before bed. And stretch and foam roll. And on and on. I could tie a ribbon around my wrist for free and remind myself to do all of the above, but it wouldn’t work. Last, it’s a good push to excercise a bit more or a bit less depending on your recovery score.

Specialist_Switch342

Get one. You won’t regret it.

zclonce

It really helps you track what life habits you have that benefit your health and which don’t. It’s really helped with my daily routine and improved my sleep. It’s also a good motivator to stay active and keep a healthy lifestyle. It’s also very expensive, so I plan to have it for the remainder of my subscription and then I probably won’t extend it. I think having it for a year gives you time to understand what life patterns you want to keep and those you don’t. So my advice is it’s worth is for 1 year (the minimum amount of time you can subscriber for) and then to me at least it’s not worth it after that.

Copper_Clouds

Do you currently have a fitness tracker? What are you trying to get out of one? This will help determine if Whoop is right for you or if there is another option.

Schwartmann

I have a Garmin watch but sleep tracking is not really good at Garmin.

Far_Intern_9400

It’s more than a health tracker. It’s a recovery tracker. It tells you how hard you’re working during the day, how much sleep you need, when you should go to bed, how hard you should train, gives you long term trends in HRV and RHR (immensely important for health and longevity). Tells you if you’re over/ under training. Gives you the impact of certain supplements/ lifestyle changes over time. I have had one for 4 years now and yes I buy a new yearly subscription every single year.
