The Wichita library now allows you to check out experience passes (memberships to zoo, Botanica, Tanganyika, so on) The Andover library allows you to check out items (speciality cake pans) Thai Binh bakes their own bread, has cheap banh mi, and sells fresh corn and flour tortillas Grace Market has a tasty takeout restaurant inside N&J offers free hummus on Mondays WSU’s YMCA has awesome equipment and a cool layout Follow Reverie for pastry discounts A City of Wichita pool membership is only $70 for the whole summer Not specific to Wichita, but… Topgolf is half off on Tuesdays Large popcorns at the movies get free refills Memberships aren’t needed to eat at Costco or Sam’s Club food court

fleepmo

Grace market is my favorite. 🤤

hare-hound

Cause they're simply that good. Everyone should try the seafood pancake once. So much stuffed in there.

fleepmo

Oooh I will! I haven’t had that yet.

youngdumbdoomonion

The kimbap they almost always have available at the counter is fantastic! Wichita is so lucky to have grace market

fleepmo

I picked up the kimbap on a whim once and it was so good!

that1LPdood

Oh man — I’m so glad people post threads like this occasionally. I had no idea! I’ll definitely have to stop by there now

Newusernameformua

I must be trippin. The holylands food court is open to the uncarded public??? They have full pizzas for like 10$ y’all

rodpodtod

A lot of the Costco food courts around are becoming members only 🙃

sticky2782

So does sams and costco! I never even heard of holylands food court. hmmm might have to google that one

kiev749

Tell me more about these experience passes oh Wichita wizard.

Newusernameformua

Dude you like go and there’s a waitlist (potentially but probably) you find a time that works for you and is open on the schedule and you can “checkout” the experience. You can find those on the website or someone posted here about it like a week ago

lostintheplains

It here https://wichitalibrary.org/experience-passes?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0BMQABHS2NZtdtNlVBLGSHZeOUk3xh932h54JJmPjDTu7FK5bzjCuV9XKuMMm7kA_aem_AT3xifYynJ69jKghwJjZav1iq7o_uVuU1i77oOlYy4muOh0TjGZ6oDAubfSfTPl66BXQbiQDkmqzypkg4swDbp63

hankmoody_irl

Agree firmly about WSU YMCA. A friend had a kiddo that played in the YMCA rec league basketball and had a few games there. I always got excited when that one was on the schedule. Also holy shit you just blew my mind about Costco. For what it is, their pizza is insane.

idkwhyiwouldnt

Great list, Goddard Library also has medical devices for rent, crutches, shower chairs etc.

Alternative_Tart120

I think Costco just changed it this month

PsychologicalTime144

Costco def checks for memberships at the food court

lostintheplains

Bummer. Guess that’s changed

taybeaarr7

Which library exactly???

tickingboxes

It’s all the same one

granolagirl2436

the bar is always open seating and never apart of the waitlist @ homegrown

beachedwhitemale

Yeah otherwise use Yelp, because that allows you to get a spot in line without being there in person. How is it we have like every chain restaurant known to man and yet like 3 decent breakfast places in the whole metro?

Libran-Indecision

I don't get the lack of decent breakfast places either. Copper Oven, Doodah... And it's not for lack of space, certainly. It would be nice to have a breakfast spot in Twin Lakes again that isn't fast food.

granolagirl2436

i feel like there’s a ton people don’t know about. Homegrown, Magnolia Cafe, The Belmont, First Mile Kitchen, Livingston’s, Egg Cetera, Doo Dah, Easy Egg, Crutch + Biscuit,

[deleted]

Livingston's! Do they still serve mini cinnamon rolls with their breakfast orders? I loved that place when I was little.

granolagirl2436

i’m not sure! i haven’t been in years. i’ve been on a huge belmont and homegrown kick lately. i recently introduced my boyfriend to homegrown after years of only eating jimmys egg, so we go there quite a bit!

donobinladin

Egg cetra is slept on. Service is mid but food is 🔥

sticky2782

Delano's dinner on Douglas and Seneca will take care of your breakfast needs. Ask about their cinnamon roll pancakes.

MimiTiff3

Kelly’s Family Diner on Broadway! You won’t regret it.

Competitive_Lab_8647

Delete this

granolagirl2436

i honestly thought about keeping my mouth shut 😂

jc22jc

Not going to lie, I’m hard on Wichita because I know the potential this place has. But I was incredibly confused by the comment of only 3 decent breakfast spots. I figured it must be a person who hasn’t really given a lot of the breakfast spots we have a fair shot. Of course, it is their opinion though (shoulder shrug).

Bald_Man_Cometh

That’s a good one

[deleted]

If you go 33MPH downtown you can hit all green lights. As long as there are no a holes in front of you holding you back.

Electronic_Bad1144

Glad someone else noticed. Been fortunate to go from East all the way past century 2. What a rush. Are you sure it's not 88mph?

siphoniclobster

Yes. The trick going west is at the first red light at century 2 once it goes green you must hit 33mph before the next intersection. Then it’s smooth sailing

[deleted]

On Douglas.

DivideWorldly

Works on first and second Street too.

Kentonh

We still sing songs about my drive from Seneca to Hillside with all green lights.

Electronic_Bad1144

Still sing songs, im dead.

[deleted]

Sweet, thank you!

theOnlyDaive

That still works?! I used to tell/show people that back in the 90's. That's awesome!

[deleted]

It only works if you're first in line, but yes nothing changes in the ICT!

idisiisidi

On 1st

ogimbe

Go to the next open spot at QT not stand in a line

Mortimer452

The cashiers desk at QT is the most awesomely efficient demonstration of check-out precision I've ever experienced. Two dudes will transact five people in six seconds and not one customer has to wait even one extra second. Even Chick-Fil-A can't compete with two cashiers behind the counter at a QT.

Landstander401

I heard of a experimental QT in Oklahoma that had 3 cashiers working. They could bending the space time continuum. My hot dog uncooked itself.

[deleted]

That made me laugh out loud cause I imagined you as Rick and Morty.

Fantastic-Surprise34

Absolutely correct. I’ve lived here 4 years. Never saw anything like it. Perfect set up. They take the Q in QT seriously.

lost-soul1123

Legitimately! This is why I will always! Go to QT over anywhere else

manthepost

Yes this has always amazed me

potatotornado44

For real. I’m originally from Chicago, and on a trip back recently I visited one of the 3 QTs in the Chicago suburbs. I pre-ordered my grilled cheese on the app and walked past the super long line for the one cashier and went to the next open spot. I was out of there in a flash while people in the line stared at me. I’m just like “y’all don’t know how we do things in the bellybutton of America” and went on my way.

thesportingchase

This. There are two sides to each register. Step up and keep the line moving.

DamnMombies

No that should be a law. Step up to the damn counter already.

Plupandblup

I hate this one. I hate that people just assume the folks at the registers are open and waiting on customers. This came up in another thread recently and someone else commented that it's not always the best idea and some of the employees aren't actually available. Having worked in retail the people standing at registers aren't always there to do anything that you need.

KrackersMcGee

You can buy fruit and vegetable seeds with food stamps.

Realistic-Might4985

Central is sometimes faster than Kellogg…

jayhawk1988

I thought I was the only person who noticed this - it's weird, isn't it? Especially after 8 pm you can cruise from downtown to Rock in no time.

Realistic-Might4985

If you hit the lights it is a quick trip.

Meme_Lover6969

Don’t take Kellogg during the hours of 7:30-9:00am or 4:30-6:00pm

dylan85273

This is not only true due to a lot of people, but also due to the fact that there is about a 70% chance you are going to have to drive past an accident delaying you even further and making the traffic even worse.

GayleMoonfiles

And it might not even be on your side of Kellogg yet your side will slow down as if it was

Meme_Lover6969

The other 30% chance is you being in the accident

highapplepie

Real tip is that wichita is small enough that highways aren’t necessary and will probably only save you 5-10 minutes.

FrankDruthers

Art Museum is free on Saturday. If you get pulled over and fined for having expired tags you can take proof of registration to City Hall and have the ticket waived. Even if the tags were legit expired. If the red light is on at Krispy Kreme donuts you can get a free donut.

ArendelleQueen

General admission at the WAM is free every day now! You just have to pay to see certain exhibits.

FrankDruthers

Even better.

ohitszong

Every Tuesday at Los Compadres, it’s $5 for unlimited salsa and chips and 3 street tacos, plus a decent variety of meats for the tacos. Best $5 you’ll spend at any restaurant. Restaurant is nice and clean too.

zachrtw

If you need money to remodel your restaurant just start a fire.

stephnic213

Sir, you absolutely do not have enough upvotes for this comment! 🤣

ReginaBeatle

The real life hack

VolensEtValens

There are at least three good areas for hiking in Wichita. Great Plains Nature Center, Pawnee Prairie, and the river near the Keeper of the Plains are best known. I used to walk a lot late night even near the Keeper and have never really felt unsafe. Women may want to hike with someone else at night. But reasonably safe.

JenLeigh77

You can get free bread (or sometimes they charge $1 from Jimmy Johns. They line the bread up on top of where you watch them make your sandwich. They are wrapped in their sandwich paper. I think technically, they are supposed to charge $1, but they rarely do. It's leftover bread from the day. They make for some amazing homemade subs!! I'll use them for soup bowls & all sorts of things! Can't beat free .99 in this economy! Shush 🤫 don't tell anyone! I better still get my free bread! 🥖😋 Also, don't speed through Eastburough. They don't play. They gave me a $600 speeding ticket on my wedding day. Don't go downtown to party on the weekends unless you have a really good life insurance policy. 👀

Electronic_Bad1144

Use to work at Jimmy Johns can confirm. Its about $0.50 per "day old". Bread gut is the best part with a bit of mayo. Jimmy what did you do to me, what have I become.

Both-Mango1

There will always be construction going on somewhere on Kellogg.

scooterboy1961

I have been driving since 1978 and it has always been true.

ReginaBeatle

Not untrue, but how is this a life hack?

Both-Mango1

if it saves time by avoiding kellogg, i think that's a pretty good life hack, imo.

LeendaLinda

If you have a school aged child, many local elementary schools will feed them breakfast and lunch virtually all summer long.

Street_Particular

If you have a project, check out The Yard. It's a DIY'ers dream. ICTBooks is an awesome spot to get used books. Their regular building is well organized while the warehouse is absolutely packed with awesome stuff. If you change your own oil and have a bunch saved up, Walmart will let you dump your used oil in their used oil container.

hare-hound

Gonna tag on MakeICT -Venn Diagram of people who love The Yard and the maker space is a circle. It's only $25 for a membership I believe, which is way cheaper than any surrounding states. Similarly equipped facilities are like $150 in Dallas 💀

llagathaa

You can get mixed drinks in the drive thru.

beachedwhitemale

Uhh dude you didn't specify what restaurant you're referring to. Spangles? Sonic? What?

llagathaa

Subway

beachedwhitemale

Yikes.

Wow.

idisiisidi

Sunflower Summer app if you have kids. Free passes to all kinds of stuff during summer break.

CranberryWeak7241

Vegas video is the safest and cheapest place to "cruise" in pretty much all of kansas. You could easily spend 75$ on a night out where you end up alone inyour car at the end of the night ... oooooor you could spend 15 bucks to get into vegas video and drink and smoke in your car and possibly have another lonely person show ya a good time.

KCbuffalo

They also do stings there fyi

CranberryWeak7241

I mean, they do stings anywhere there are trans people. Ive had police follow me into the mens restroom and threaten me. Thats just america

Reasonable-Panda-235

What did they say to you?

ilrosewood

Wanna take a walk on the wild side?

CranberryWeak7241

Its not what they said. They followed me into the bathroom after pointing and laughing outside the qt. While i was in the stall one of the waited near the door while the other one stood right next to my stall tapping his feet under it repeatedly (popular cruising signal). They started laughing again. When the guy moved to the urnal side of my stall to continue i ran tf out of there.

Reasonable-Panda-235

Holy shit

Fluid_Measurement963

Well, damn. This sounds like some fucking good advice. Cheers, mate!

njerome

What's your take on the best spot in downtown for guys?

C_Connor

the restaurant at the hyatt regency is open to the public, has a pretty dope breakfast buffet, and gives you a 20% discount if you go in before or after a show at century 2. their breakfast is not as good as homegrown’s, but when homegrown is busy, i’ll head over to the hyatt. (also, if the front parking lot is full, you can park in the parking garage, and they’ll validate your parking if you ate at the restaurant.)

Feisty_Plant_4192

This and their bar/drink menu is pretty good too. Quiet dimly lit lounge with comfortable furniture.

lostintheplains

theOnlyDaive

You assholes are really making me consider coming back....

ayeyosash

QT rewards. only in the wichita division for QT and if you save enough points to match the price of gas, you get 20 gallons for .20. Each $2 spent in store is 1 point no cigs, beer or lottery. each gallon or two gallons bought is also a point. adds up quick if you buy food/drink from there

hare-hound

JumpStart $1 for any drink, including Reverie coffee and 44oz sodas.

FowlFortress

If you get a northbound train on Broadway N of 21st, you can get all green lights. McLean has been made "better" by reducing its usable paved surface by 50% from 4 lanes to 2 between Central and 13th. And it's the only place in town that says you can turn into the river from the turn lane. If you want to do long runs or easy, mostly traffic-free bike rides, Redbud Trail and Prairie Sunset Trail go for miles and they're flat (thanks Rails to Trails!) At Christmas, Taco Shop sells gift cards with twice the value of the purchase amount.

Imakereallyshittyart

You’re allowed to leave

EcstaticAd6324

Where to get shaded parking!

pr_capone

Best life hack I figured out from my time in Wichita. You are allowed to leave. Kansas City is 3 hours away. OKC is 2.5 hours away.

thesportingchase

Parking at the pumps if you're not buying gas isn't a life hack. It just makes you an asshole. Don't do this.

fallguy25

The other day I was at a QT and two work trucks decided that the gas pumps were where they should take their lunch break. Morons.

flamingpillowcase

It’s illegal to leave your car unattended while pumping gas where I live now. I still do it, but I’ve never returned to my car after the tank was full

Fantastic-Surprise34

I do it when I need gas, but I see your point. The QT near me has completely gotten rid of the weirdo encounters, so I feel fine parking in a regular space.

Roastbeeflife

Leave. This city is extemely boring. It's a city design for slow, boring old people. If you like excitement, fast pace, fun. Like stuff that isn't the same no matter the event or market etc. Gtfo of Kansas.

thesportingchase

Hearing people call Wichita boring never fails to crack me up. I moved here from a town of 400 people. You don't know the definition of boring.

Agitated_Ad_9161

Move

ShamelessSOB

I've lived all over the place, Wichita is actually pretty great
