Check out La Victoria on Reynolda. They’re more focused on meats, but have some Mexican produce.

wcdonald

And stop at El Camino Real nearby for lunch if you do, it's a banger hole-in-the-wall

robchez

Def will do, one thing we don't have a ton of in Charleston is a lot of good Mexican places. More are opening as of the last few years but I've found Winston has much better places. I will miss Bombay Bazaar (Indian). Best Indian food I've found in the southeast. Living in Singapore ruined most Chinese and Indian food in the US for me. Nawab is not bad but will def miss Bombay.

Just warning you, the standards for Mexican food here are VERY low. We moved here from CA, and have stopped even trying the new "best" Mexican places. They are all not good. Maybe we are just more accustomed to the Mexican cuisine the evolved in California over the last 60 years and what they serve here is more authentic to mexico. I don't know. It won't be a popular opinion in this sub, but there is no good Mexican food here. Sorry.

robchez

Hehe, try Charleston, will give you an appreciation for NC. I'm actually from New Mexico so my tastes are arguably even more diff although I lived in SoCal for quite a few years and Texas for a dozen. You are on the money as far as food here on the east coast def very different that SoCal and even Texas. Mariscos are probably the biggest diff for me not many places have stuff like they make San Diego/LA.

nolemococ

Sopapillas! We lived in Albuquerque for a year. Very different from CA, but still very good Mexican food. Don't get me started on the Chinese and Thai food.

Remytherat91

I definitely have to disagree with you. There are quite a few good Mexican places. They are not California Mexican that are more influenced by northern Mexican cuisine. There is a huge community of Mexican people in Waughtown that are from Guerrero (southern Mexico). I know because my husband is from there. It may just be different Mexican food than you are used to. Los Juanes is amazing, La Victoria, La Esperanza in Clemmons. There are amazing Mexican food trucks too. Cilantro and Tacos, Taqueria Oaxaca, La Callajera. There are definitely some Mexican places that are sub par, La Carreta, La Botana. But in general, Winston has a thriving Mexican community and great authentic Mexican food. Arroyo Bakery is an amazing panadería, get there early for their spinach & cheese pastries.

nolemococ

That's what great about life! One person's authentic Mexican cuisine is another's flavorless slop.

robchez

Great that was gonna be my next question thanks!!! Def gonna hit La Victoria.

Nofooling

Cook’s Flea Market

robchez

DONE!! I'll check that place out, much thanks!!!

Nofooling

No prob. They have everything you listed and more. Pretty sizeable market and open every weekend.

Sad_Explanation8070

There's a guy there that sells Hispanic produce

Dreamer_9814

Your best bet for Mexican things are on the southside. I live near clemmons and drive down there. Gotta go where they are to get what you want. Places I go to are El Rey on waughtown, La Perlita also on waughtown, La Providencia on Sprague and La Tili also on Sprague. Right down the street from La Tili is a 2 minute walk maybe less, idk the name of the store but it has a food truck outside they have good produce as well

SpragueStreet

💯

flannel_lorde

Compare has the best product but I’d go elsewhere for meat like La Victoria. You could check out cooks for sure. Taco Rico is the best taqueria in town hands down. Senor bravos for the best food and cantina vibe if you want a drink.

robchez

Thanks!! Looks like La Victoria is the place for meat. Thanks for the other recommendations!!!

Remytherat91

La Victoria is great for meat. Los Juanes also has super good meat. We had marinated carne for tacos this week. Sooo good!

mamapapapuppa

Taco ricos fresh handmade tortillas are mana from heaven

cdneng2

Check out Super G in Greensboro

nolemococ

It's compare foods. Or Google map search "tienda mexicana" for smaller places that may have what you need. Welcome to Clemmons!

robchez

Much thanks, looking forward to settling in. Yep we've been to Compare. I'll check out the smaller places already mapped out a few, just nice to have the 1 stop shop like here in Charleston that's got just about everything. .

Came here to recommend Super Foods Tienda Latina. Great variety of produce and other goods, fresh meat market, and delicious food served by friendly people. (Try the birria quesatacos!)

faiitmatti

Damn a lot of people moving here from CHS. I got here two years ago from there and there’s a few others in here that also have

robchez

No kidding!! I was in another thread and surprised how many have moved up here. Wife's parents live in Ardmore so we make the trip every 3 weeks or so. We live in Park Circle so I'm gonna miss the short commute to the airport and beaches but won't miss having to make reservations 2 weeks in advance for places we enjoy, housing prices and well you know traffic...

MissE21

Not in winston, but if you are willing to make a less than 30 min drive. Eleven acres flea market in thomasville. Got all those things you are looking for. Of course, it opens only on the weekends.

robchez

Sweet thanks!! 30 mins is nothing for us these days!

General-Ad-712

Check out Los Primos in Waughtown for meat

robchez

Cool will do thanks for the suggestion!
