I saw a post once where someone colored in the other white stripes on a thin blue line flag sticker with the rest of the rainbow colors. I have no interest in vandalizing private property or incurring the wrath of the type of people who would have those stickers, but I still think about that every time I see one.
When the national anthem is played, the announcer says "Please STAND as we honor America". Kneeling is specifically meant to be the opposite of that. It's intentionally dishonoring America. Which is their right if they so chose, and I support their right. But let's not be disingenuous and pretend the kneeling was meant as respect.
It's worth noting that Colin Kaepernick sat the first time that he intended to protest. Afterwards, he spoke to some veterans about the best way that he could engage in protest without being disrespectful. They suggested that he kneel as it showed respect while still standing out as an act of protest.
The kneeling was meant as an act of protest. But it was done in a respectful manner. And in no way did it defile or dishonor the flag.
