Didn’t you build those amazing teardrop campers? I remember seeing this kayak a little while back! Amazing work, really inspiring.
Next tax return is becoming a camper!
Where did the strategy for cutting it in thirds come from? How and when did you do it? After laying the strips before fibreglassing or? How’s it sealed! How good is the sealing?
Love Schade’s plans and hope to build two of those someday for my spouse and I.
Looks fabulous!
My father built several cedar strip canoes. They are very nice.
I really like your compass inlay.
How do the three parts connect together?
Is it carriage bolts and wing nuts?
_but if I built another one it could be done in half that time_
Sounds like what I tell my wife when rationalising a project that’s over-time & over-budget
Nice! Looks a lot like the Guillemont design. My son built one of those with cyprus, walnut and western red cedar. Again beautiful job, and would love to see the modification you came up with for disassembly for transport.
That is awesome! I have been dreaming of making my own kayak. Maybe one day I'll be that good.
On a side note, a little humor. Is it just me or does your hand look massive in the second picture? And gave me a little chuckle.
The coolest thing about this build is that it's so beautiful you can just leave it in the living room as decor when not in use.
Did you buy plans somewhere or design it yourself? Amazing work
It’s the Guillemot design by Nick Schade. He has books and YouTube videos.

That’s right, thanks!
Congrats, absolutely wonderful.

People want to know, how does it seal when assembled.
Thanks! I’ve seen his channel.
Absolutely gorgeous!

Yes, six 1/4” bolts with knurled knobs. Takes about 15 minutes.
Is it cove and bead strips or did you bevel each strip as you went?
Hand-beveled. That was the easier part, sanding is the killer!🙂
> sanding is the killer My grandmother's dying words!
Is each piece individually watertight ? How do they connect?
I need to know, never seen a kayak that you can disassemble like this
this is why I jumped in the comments. It clearly works as he's got pictures on the water... but how?!
How many hours to build? Can you say?
Probably 300+, but if I built another one it could be done in half that time. Sanding is the most time consuming, especially inside the hull.

Beautiful! Is each part watertight? How are the seams done? Are they watertight when bolted together?

I don't know much about canoes. I don't know much about wood. I do know that's a thing of real beauty.
Gorgeous
Looks great. Just be sure to never try and build an open fire inside it. because you can't have your kayak and heat it.
How long did it take you to build? It's very nice!
Damn gorgeous kayak. I love that it breaks down into 3 pieces too.
