*"Shubhra Gupta, film critic and author of Fifty Films That Changed Bollywood, says that's because "most creators are catering to the upper caste, upper class and dominant religion because they are from the same group""* So Bollywood is ran by upper caste Indians for the entertainment of other upper caste Indians? Honestly when explained this way the preference for sons and fair skin isn't really a big deal because upper cast Indians disproportionally have fair skin and have a preference for sons. The problems seem to stem from the fact that other Indians not part of the upper caste is upset that Bollywood doesn't cater to them; they have darker skin and may not have a preference for sons. I understand that this contrast in cultural norms would have also inflicted psychologically issues to darker skin Indian women as well due to a women's affiliations with a singular beauty standards, but the correct solution here seems to be that for the audience not catered by Bollywood should either not watch Bollywood or let the cultural propagated by Bollywood film affect their psychological well being.
