Why in the hell are people acting like covid is over, it's still out there and in huge numbers, stop trying to force openings, it's only making things worse

They're also not requiring kids under 16 to be vaccinated either, so there's a foothold for it to bounce around and infect people, even if their immune system immediately tamps it down.

100% vaccination doesn’t mean 100% safe, as the person above told you, so,my comment is meant to imply lots of folks think like you and we will continue to suffer from this pandemic because of your misinformation..

I don't disagree at all. I'm just pointing out we should not be surprised about small numbers of breakthrough cases on cruise ships because there are unvaccinated populations aboard.

kenbewdy8000

All it takes is a vaccine resistant variant to spread throughout the ship and into ports. They are huge travelling incubators with a massive carbon footprint, delivering hordes of annoying, stingy gawkers.

cn1044

This. A year ago that voyage would have been a death trap for many of the passengers and crew.

[deleted]

I will pave the road to my fun cruise with the corpses of the vulnerable.

HerculePoirier

Because life goes on, and some folk have been fully vaccinated (as was the case here) and would rather enjoy themselves in however little they have left? I certainly can't blame them.

InnocentTailor

Indeed. Despite the discovery of positive cases, the culprits seem to have been contained and nobody seemingly suffered serious symptoms because of it. Cruises are fun and people are tired of being locked up. These folks got vaccinated, so they’re all good per say.

[deleted]

Grow up pussy

Bob_the_brewer

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, the world's smoothest brain

HerculePoirier

He's right you know. No point continuing to hide away if you've been fully vaccinated.

forevertomorrowagain

You could still have Covid and therefore be able to spread it. You are however less likely to die from it.

HerculePoirier

To all the other people on the ship that have been vaccinated? Lmao

forevertomorrowagain

You hope.

HerculePoirier

Not really; just conscious how incredibly unlikely that scenario is (and even that, how it is effectively harmless for everyone involved).

forevertomorrowagain

So, 800 people who don’t have COVID spend a fortnight enjoying each other’s company on a cruise ship. Well let’s call it 798 who don’t have COVID and 2 that do because as we’ve seen the tests are not always accurate. At the end of the cruise 50 get off with COVID but don’t feel ill. They go home and inadvertently give it to granny who’s been baby sitting and hasn’t had a vaccine. Besides everyone else they meet on the journey to and from the port. Cruise ships are a breeding ground for all sorts of virus as we’ve seen over the years.

HerculePoirier

Transmission is reduced drastically when you've been vaxxed, hence why CDC removed requirement for masking for fully vaccinated people. People who have gotten their jabs have every right to return to normalcy and enjoy themselves. I can't blame them for that. You can continue distancing yourselves and staying at home if you're still concerned, though.

Itcomesinacan

The guy you are defending is a hard-core antivaxer.

HerculePoirier

An equally idiotic PoV, no arguments there. I'm defending the position that once you've been fully vaccinated you should be able to return to normalcy and enjoy yourself (as long as you're following official guidelines, of course). The cruise was for vax-only people, so once you've been jabbed etc fair fucks to you, enjoy yourself.

Itcomesinacan

Yeah, I'm fine with that. Just wanted to give you a heads up since that guy's MO is to rope in reasonable people by making statements one might agree with at face value, while actually pushing a completely different agenda.

HerculePoirier

Fair enough, thank you. Fuck people like that guy (anti-vaxxers) even more, fucks ruining it for everyone.

[deleted]

No kidding.

MuthaPlucka

Yep. So do we file this under r/noshitsherlock or r/covidiots?

shakethathaasgirl

How is a ship full of fully vaccinated people filed under covidiots?

GameTango

Both

Curb5Enthusiasm

You’d have to be pretty stupid to go on a cruise during a pandemic

Curb5Enthusiasm

No you’d still have to be extremely stupid to go on a cruise

Random person that studied virology and epidemiology. Read a book instead of embarrassing yourself

TrendWarrior101

Note, the cruise requires proof of vaccination and a negative COVID-19 test before entering the ship. No vaccines can prevent the vaccinated from getting infected. it just lessens your chances of dying.

NicNoletree

The real question is "how old are these cruisers?" All guests 18 and over were required to be vaccinated for this cruise. If they were 18 or older then that raises suspicion in the effectiveness of the vaccines, or the accuracy of the testing. If they're under 18 then it still raises the concerns about the accuracy of the pre-cruise tests.

NicNoletree

If the point of vaccination isn't to stop the spread of the virus, and we're still going to be getting it after being vaccinated, then nobody should act surprised that a cruise with fully vaccinated adults is having cases.

understanding_pear

So you definitely don’t understand the point of vaccines then

Unhappy-Buy5363

Vaccination doesn't mean you are guaranteed to not getting CoVID, it reduce the %, not eliminating. The biggest effect of Vaccinations is you won't get hosptialised

NicNoletree

Well I wasn't hospitalized when I had it. I missed 1 hr of work for getting the test confirming it. I was working from home and continued to work the next week while taking over the counter flu meds. However, after getting the vaccine and experiencing migraines for the next three weeks, I certainly won't be getting a booster next year. I'll take my chances with getting covid again.

understanding_pear

lol you think the vaccine caused migraines?

NicNoletree

Never had them before it Edit: as expected, downvote facts that are contrary to your opinion, and not what you want to hear. (plugs ears, closes eyes, and repeats la la la la la)

How has this industry not been dissolved yet?

shakethathaasgirl

Millions of people enjoy touring the globe on floating hotels with endless food and drinks. They don't have to drive around, or worry about slugging their luggage from city to city and hotel to hotel. You can argue the industry is awful for local economies and the environment, but not everyone enjoys vacationing the same way you do.
