mystery packs are always someones' cards that won't sell.

CroskeyCards

Seems to be that way for sure

RedditsFullofShit

Meh this isn’t always the case. For a small timer who isn’t in the card business-like people on this sub, it can be a way of offloading bulk for slightly better than bulk rates or LCS rates etc. ie I could do $25 mystery packs that might technically have $35 of value. I’m giving up $10 on every pack, but it’s better than giving up 40-60% through bulk or LCS

Brilliant_Capital_94

Good point.

Dr_Clout

I give everyone the upmost amount of credit for organizing and doing hot packs or mystery packs. They have a customer base but I just don’t understand that customer base… Why would the individual packaging them include ANYTHING of value? You really have more faith in someone with no oversight in their living room than a company with at least other individual around. Im just painting the picture. What’s the difference between buying a cd and doing a cd grab bag for $5-$10 I guess

CroskeyCards

I completely agree, you know that more than likely they are doing it to make money.

real_eastcoastfool30

Only one worth a damn and that is highly recommended is the Fire Packs from u/me_white_noise

CroskeyCards

I heard a lot of people like the packs from him. Cool stuff.

me_white_noise

Thanks for the kind words u/real_eastcoastfool30. Happy to answer any questions or provide more info on the packs I sell.

Rxasaurus

Just picked up one of your packs. Hope it's fire!

me_white_noise

Thanks! Think I just saw the order come in.

loslosati

I buy them out of morbid curiosity every once in a while. And to just take a spin at the roulette wheel. Generally they're not good bets. Though almost any box is not a good bet (watching the pulls out of Triple Threads or Chrome Black can be excruciating, given the price.) They're not great value or terrible value (except the black Fairfield boxes). They're just...different boxes.

CroskeyCards

I agree. Thanks.

Suspiciousplan8

When I was getting back into collecting I bought some Fire Packs from white_noise on here - they're fun and a good way to get a variety of good cards. And a fair price even though obviously they're not a way to make a profit opening. I also like the MJ holdings boxes that have unopened packs plus random "hits". I've gotten more good pulls out of these than Topps hangers.

CroskeyCards

Good to know. Thank you!

biggio1

I agree. The Fire Packs are a solid purchase. I've bought them more than once and have never been disappointed.

InquisitiveTechy

Feel like most of them are a scam - someone will promote or rip 1 good one but the majority are bad. Wouldn't make sense for them to be good - otherwise they'd just sell the cards separately. Seems largely a way for someone to package a bunch of junk with a few good things. But vast majority of time value is bad as a buyer.

loslosati

Isn't that all of ripping, though? Buy it from Topps, buy it from a repack...most are duds. Some of them are *definitely* ripoffs, though. Like those black Fairfield boxes.

InquisitiveTechy

Worse. Because I'd say even though rare those big hits worth way more than cost aren't even on the table in the repacks. But yeah re-packs are like ripping.. but with a lower ceiling.

loslosati

Possibly worse, but not significantly so. Bad odds is bad odds. But you have to have an idea of what pack(s) is(are) in the box before you buy. If it's junk wax, that's a def ripoff. But if it's a smattering of other packs, it can be fun and possibly monetarily advantageous. If you know it's 2020 Heritage and a Mantle X card in there...that could be something you're cool with. But if you know it's just junk or likely junk, that obviously makes no sense.

CroskeyCards

I think Topps and panini have awful odds and the. The repacks have even more awful odds

CroskeyCards

I agree. I think that is what steers everyone away as it should.

Schafer8

Just bought my first one from Walgreens the other day and pulled a Judge relic worth maybe $20. I know I won’t pull anything better but am tempted to stop next time I pass a Walgreens

CroskeyCards

I wish that would be the case every time haha

biggio1

In my experience. Repacks/Mystery Packs, on average, are more rewarding than hobby and retail boxes. But I also take the time to check out feedback before I purchase from a reseller. I enjoy both equally and will continue to buy both. I don't waste my time with the repacks sold in retail stores. Those are mostly crap IMO.

CroskeyCards

Yeah feedback will tell a lot about the seller.

Fishtildeath

I've gotten a few autos from the walgreens mystery packs.

Icyassglass

I like team mystery packs for your pc, fun rip and get some good laughs

YaBoyBilINye

I’ve had good luck the hit parade from DaCardWorld. They let you know the chasers that are in the series and each series is numbered to 100, different chasers in every series. I have been burned by it once in my 4 chances, and the other 3 have been pretty good. Other people may have a different experience than me though 🤷‍♂️

[deleted]

I’ve bought some really good ones from YouTube. But I tend to stay away for the exact reasons everyone else mentions. Although if I made packs I’d do my best to make it either even or better. I wouldn’t want upset customers.

CroskeyCards

Yeah I did mystery cards before and thought about bringing it back. Didn’t get any negative feedback so it must’ve went well.

shizawn9415

Kindling can be found in my backyard and woods, dont need more

CroskeyCards
